Inclusion is the acceptance of all people regardless of their differences. It is about appreciating people for who they are because even though we are all different, we are one. Inclusion allows people to value differences in each other by recognizing that each person has an important contribution to make to our society.
What is Recreation?
Recreation is engaging in a leisure activity or experience for personal and enjoyment. Research shows that recreational experiences are essential to a balanced lifestyle, personal freedom, self-discovery, & growth. Recreation and leisure support physical, social, & emotional wellness. These experiences enrich individual development and interpersonal friendships and connection within & among groups/communities. Outcomes crucial for all- especially individuals with disabilities who are separated or segregated from recreational and social opportunities.
What is Inclusive Recreation?
Inclusive Recreation intentionally provides equal & equitable leisure opportunities to everyone. Inclusion in recreation involves more than participation of children with and without disabilities. Inclusive recreation involves meaningful engagement of children with and without disabilities.
