In this webinar recording, viewers will be introduced to methods for integrating disability justice principles into their programs, projects, and internal organizational structures.

As more organizers and organizations attempt to move from a disability rights to a disability justice approach in their work, they often face challenges in their transition to more equitable and inclusive practices. This recording focuses on strategies to overcome these challenges, and to make these inclusive changes smoother and easier to enact.

About the presenters

Sharon daVanport (they/she) is the founder and executive director of the Autistic Women and Nonbinary Network (AWN). Sharon’s work encompasses several aspects of the wider and cross-disability justice movement, including a focus on restorative and transformative justice, and strengthening leadership and partnerships through collective capacity and horizontal organizing practices. Sharon is a steering committee member of the National Disability Leadership Alliance, a member of Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities, serves as board treasurer for Crushing Colonialism, and an advisory board member at Felicity House. Sharon is co-editor of “Sincerely, Your Autistic Child” (March 2021) published by Beacon Press. They have spoken before the United Nations and the White House, and they were recently inducted into the 2020 Susan M. Daniels Disability Mentoring Hall of Fame. Outside of Sharon’s work in disability advocacy, they have nearly a decade of experience as a social worker, and they are a parent of four diversely neurodivergent adults.

Morénike Giwa Onaiwu, PhD(c), MA (she/they) is a global advocate, educator, disabled person of color, non-binary woman, and parent of children on the autism spectrum in a neurodiverse, multicultural, twice-exceptional serodifferent family. A prolific writer and social scientist/activist whose work focuses on intersectional justice, meaningful community involvement, human rights, and inclusion, Morénike, who was raised in the United States by West African immigrants, is recognized as a leader in various social justice activism endeavors.
